Since the introduction of the polymer note on 20th February 2020 the use of cash has been discouraged due to the Covid-19 pandemic meaning that inevitably a large number of the paper notes remain in circulation.

The Bank of England has announced that the last day the old-style £20 & £50 can be used will be 30th September 2022. After the BOE withdrawal period has elapsed, the note can still be banked or exchanged in bank branches.

After the 30th of September, we question why not take them? If someone has one in their pocket surely you'd rather have it in yours? All the time they can be banked as normal. We will also exchange the notes for our customers.
